Michael began taking classical piano lessons at the age of eight and continues to study today. While in high school he was entered into several State competitions and was awarded the highest honors. He is currently enrolled in the School of Music at the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater. He continues studying the piano, taking both classical and jazz lessons.
During high school he was a member of three local bands, including Utah, Walden Lane, and Braided Funk. Still a member of Braided Funk, they continue to play a mix of jazz, funk and blues in local clubs, summer festivals, and traveled to the National Wake board competition in Orlando, Florida.

At the university Michael performs with the Jazz Lab, Jazz Ensemble, the Big Band, and solo classical performances. Michael's professors have recommended him for numerous engagements in the area as well as faculty events including a Christmas celebrations and a party for the Chancellor.
Michael plays solo but often performs as a duo with either an acoustic bass or a saxophone. He is also a member of The Main Street Trio and the Jesse Voelkner Band. He has been a regular at the Red Geranium Restaurant, Nicoise at the Golden Oak Mansion, and Lake Lawn Resort.
